Term2 Week2 - Friday Session

This morning circle time finished with "Walking the Line" in the Infant Area whereby each child was given the opportunity to walk around the rounded, rectangular line taped on the floor, the idea of which facilitates the skill required for walking, improves body awareness, concentration, balance etc. This led to a busy time in the Infant Area with a lot of children choosing jobs from this section in the first half hour of the session. Pictured in the foreground is Erin (4yrs) and Charlie (2yrs) who both chose paper jobs.
In the second hour of the session Carmelina did the pink object box and sentence comprehension cards with Amali (4 yrs, pictured above) who persisted with the job for well over half an hour. In the last hour Erin (also 4 yrs) chose the same job and was again assisted by Carmelina. Children will inherently choose a job that best suits their developing skills; the fact that they both chose the same job and are of a similar age supports the fact that they are both nearing the sensitve period for learning to read, which is said to be approximately 4.5 to 5.5 years (though this obviously has exceptions).
