Term1 Week7 - Friday Session

A few times this term Kian (3 1/2 years) has expressed an interest in the Roman Arch job. Today, in the last part of the first hour, dad Steve, who wasn't sure on the correct methodology for building it, asked Raylene to demonstrate. In the picture left we see Raylene, Riley (3 1/2 years), Kian and Kian's father Steve, as they discuss the keystone, the topmost stone in the arch. Once the demonstration was complete, Kian continued with the job, showing determination as he honed his fine motor skills.

When demonstrating a job to a child it is vitally important that you are versant in the correct methodology, for once a lesson is learned it is very difficult to unlearn if it has been taught incorrectly. Manuals are available in the Montessori environment outlining how to undertake all jobs in the environment, teachers may be consulted and do demonstrate jobs on a regular basis, and job descriptions are now a regular feature of our newsletters. We encourage our parents to make use of any or all of these options at any opportunity.
