Term1 Week6 - Saturday Session

On Saturday toward the end of the first hour, Sienna (2 years) chose the timer job, which attracted the interest of her brother, Brodie (4 years). Brodie watched and waited patiently until it was placed back on the shelves. At the beginning of the second hour Brodie then chose the job, which drew the attention of Erin (also 4 years). When Erin came over to watch, Brodie stopped what he was doing, and when asked by his mum Lisa if he would like Erin to join in he agreed.
Erin had done the job with her dad, Paul, a few weeks before and explained that the symbols on the timers (eg. 5m) meant 5 minutes etc. Together they explored the job, discussing which timers were the slowest, which the quickest etc. Eventually Brodie left the job, and Erin packed the job away.

The Montessori Way, with very clear rules for job ownership, allows for respectful social interactions to occur whereby the children come together and work toward a common goal whist sharing their mutual interest.
